What is Delta 10?

When it comes to CBD products, frequent users often know about the two most common compounds: Delta-8 THC (this comes from legal hemp and gives a mild relaxing effect); and Delta-9 THC (the compound that gives you the more expected “high” effect). But you might not know about the newest addition to the compound list: Delta-10 THC!

Delta-10 THC is the new kid on the block in the cannabinoid world -- and it’s due to take the cannabis and hemp product market by storm! We here at Nerps Brands are excited to be on the cutting edge of this change with you, and we’re happy to give you the background you need to be in the know about Delta-10 THC.

Even if you aren’t familiar with THC compounds, it’s always good to know more about what you’re putting in your body. This is a big part of the reason why we champion transparency at Nerps! It’s your product and your body -- you should have all the information you need to make an education decision.

To that end, let’s talk about Delta-10 THC, how this unique compound came about, and how it’s going to change the face of the cannabis and hemp product world!

Accidental Beginnings

There are hundreds of cannabinoids (compounds) derived from both hemp and cannabis. Delta-10 THC is one of the most interesting cannabinoids found so far -- entirely because it was discovered by accident!

We owe the discovery of Delta-10 THC to a California cannabis company, Fusion Farms. Due to California’s tendency towards wildfires, the cannabis that Fusion purchased contained, unknown to them, trace amounts of fire retardant.

Fusion went through the process of distilling their cannabis like they always do -- only to find crystals forming in their distillate. This isn’t unusual on its own -- but the structure of the crystals that formed were unlike any cannabinoid structure found in the industry to date.

After an analysis, Fusion learned that the crystals were closely related to CBC (a common cannabis compound), but they weren’t an exact match structurally. Fusion pressed further and employed the help of other laboratories to help them unravel the mystery of this unusual crystal.

More testing and scientific questioning led Fusion to the discovery that they had stumbled upon an entirely new cannabinoid: Delta-10 THC!

Chemical Structure

Now we know: Delta-10 THC came into being when the fire retardant used to combat California wildfires mixed with cannabis. Amazing, isn’t it?

But you shouldn’t be concerned that Delta-10 THC comes from fire retardant. This original discovery by Fusion Farms has led other laboratories to develop better, safer ways of producing Delta-10 THC. Scientists have also been hard at work exploring the full depths of everything this fascinating new cannabinoid has to offer.

Until Fusion discovered it, Delta-10 THC was such an unknown cannabinoid that most scientists mistook it for straight-up CBC or CBL. Naturally occurring Delta-10 THC appears in such small amounts in both hemp and cannabis that scientists and cannabis farmers would have to spend copious resources to extract it. To harvest enough Delta-10 THC to be worthwhile, it must be manufactured in a safe, controlled environment from only the best quality hemp or cannabis.

Which is great for you as a customer! It ensures that only the highest quality Delta-10 THC is on the market, because it must be produced intentionally.

One way scientists are finding to extract Delta-10 THC is by changing the chemical make-up of other cannabinoids. Since so many of these compounds are structurally similar, scientists have found that certain food-grade additives can actually transform the commonly known Delta-9 THC into Delta-10 THC.

Though Delta-10 THC had odd origins, the current version of this cannabinoid that you will purchase through Nerps has been developed into a stable, safe product for you to enjoy.

Growing Demand

With Delta-8 THC products selling out around the globe, cannabis producers expect Delta-10 THC to make a big impact on the market.

Most users don’t only want CBD products for their health and wellness benefits -- they want something to relax them. With heightened stressors in our daily lives, is it any wonder why consumers want a product to help them take the edge off?

Whether they’re looking for something to help them sleep or just to get through an anxiety-filled day, customers like you are turning more and more frequently to CBD products. But for people hoping to relax, most CBD products don’t offer that benefit -- which is why Delta-10 THC is projected to be such a hotly contested addition to common CBD products (the bulk of which are made with Delta-8 THC).
